Should good design go unnoticed?

If you show a design to someone (omitting the client who is actually paying attention to the design) and they give no feedback weather good or bad, would it be safe to say that the design is flawless? I think good graphic design “just works” through our learned observation of what is and what is not aesthetically pleasing.
